Gerald Saladyga:
Painting/Mixed Media
"I consider myself a landscape painter, but not in the traditional sense. For me, landscape means everything about the cosmos--within, on and outside the planet on which we live.
I work on paper, wood and canvas, using closely applied dots to surfaces that have been coated with several layers of different colored paint and then sanded back down to the original surface color with an electric sander.
So what appears on the painting is my sense of first looking into the mantle of the earth, gazing back into space, and then observing its surface, pock-marked by urban sprawl, pollution and natural and human devastation.
Using new scientific and technological information as a source, I am painting an ecological visual statement of the beauty and the fragility of landscape, in its entirety."
